May 9: Day
All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. Ephesians 1:3 NLT
Jesus has poured out all goodness we experience—past, present, and future. Long before time began, in eternity past, Jesus was chosen by the Father as the first and true Elect. And in that choice, we were included. Scripture says we were chosen in him before the world was ever created. As the Father’s one and only Son, Jesus had the eternal rights of Sonship, and through his grace, he has shared that status with us. We’ve been adopted into God’s family and spiritually reborn, so now we have the right to be called sons and daughters of God (see John 1:12).
The eternal covenant, sealed by Christ’s promise and confirmed with an oath, is ours. It gives us comfort and security. In the unshakable plan of God’s sovereignty, Jesus never lost sight of us. His gaze has always been fixed on his people, and there’s not a single word in the story of our lives that contradicts the good he intends for his redeemed ones.
We are the ones Jesus has promised himself to. He is our Bridegroom, and one day soon, all creation will witness our union. His miraculous birth, his willingness to step down from heaven to suffer and be humiliated—that was all for us. His agony in Gethsemane, the whip, the cross. Every moment of it was for us, and we’ll carry the reward of it forever.
Everything good that flows from his perfect life, his sacrifice, his resurrection, his ascension, and his intercession—it is all our gift. Right now, he carries our names on his breastplate. When he stands before the throne and pleads, he pleads for you.
His authority over everything and his supreme majesty in heaven are fully used for the good of those who trust him. Just as he once lowered himself to serve us in his suffering, he now uses his exalted position to serve us still. The same Jesus who gave himself for us in agony and death hasn’t changed his heart now that he reigns in glory. What he gave us at the cross through despair and death, he hasn’t taken back now he is throned in glory.
